Love and Life

Peaceful Sunday

We haven’t been up to much since being home… mostly living slowly and peacefully, recuperating from last week’s adventures and getting ready for the rest of the semester.

Today we went on a walk before dinner to the nearby Parc du Grand Blottereau, which is around a mile away from our apartment.

I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. — Wendell Berry

  1. Lovely. I don’t know if you have the same skyview at night as we do. Just after sunset, the crescent moon begins to set and there are 2 large planets in a line following the moon to the horizon. It is stunning… This poem reminds me that there are likely wonders in the heavens like this all the time, but the clarity of day keeps me from seeing. I hope you can see this same sight…it is amazing.

    1. Rosie! We seldom see the evening sky; it is typically obscured by buildings. We did get to see the beautiful crescent moon yesterday while we were out walking. It is too beautiful. And yes, the quote above makes me think about all the “day-blind stars” that glimmer and flare all the while unobserved by us. How lovely and comforting.

    2. I’ve seen this sky. Your appreciation, Rosy — is one of the reasons you are so beautiful.. You, also, my darling Rebecca. And I love how you love good Jonathan. 🙂
